Description: Named after the Shinto Moon god, Tsukuyomi is one of the most powerful genjutsu in existence. It is unique to the Uchiha clan and only those with the Mangekyo Sharingan can perform it. It is said to represent the "Spiritual World and Darkness" (精神界と闇, Seishinkai to Yami), the antipode to Amaterasu, a ninjutsu of similar power and fellow Mangekyō Sharingan dōjutsu, said to represent the "Material World and Light" (物質界と光, Busshitsukai to Hikari).
Tsukuyomi requires eye contact to be performed. When executed, the jutsu traps the target in an illusionary world that is completely controlled by the user. While it only takes a few seconds to complete in the real world, the user can make it seem as if days have passed for the target. Depending on the user's whim, they can either torture their target for days on end, or make them relive a traumatic event over and over. When the jutsu ends the resultant psychological trauma will render the target unable to fight for a while, and possibly suffer a complete mental breakdown. An example of this is Kakashi Hatake, who had to be hospitalized for quite some time after Itachi performed the Tsukuyomi on him.
A common feature of illusions created by Tsukuyomi is a red moon that casts a red light throughout the illusion, giving the background a blood-red appearance while the figures within the illusion are in a grayscale, inverted color. This feature is not present when Itachi uses Tsukuyomi against Sasuke Uchiha in Part II.
Such a powerful technique is not without its disadvantages, however. Due to the complexity of the illusion and the quickness with which it is executed, an enormous amount of chakra is necessary to perform it. Though Kakashi says that Tsukuyomi cannot be escaped, Sasuke has been able to break out of Tsukuyomi by using his own Sharingan.
Although Sasuke has not been seen using any genjutsu specifically labeled as Tsukuyomi, his usage of both Amaterasu and Susanoo suggests that he is able to. Both Itachi and Sasuke have noted that in order to use Susanoo, both Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi must have been awakened, further reinforcing that Sasuke can use Tsukuyomi.
Tsukuyomi-induced comas are however, curable, as shown when Tsunade quickly and easily countered its aftereffects affecting Kakashi and Sasuke, though admittedly, no one but she was able to, hinting the mental damage it causes is considerably high, and the victims had to stay in bed for a little while longer, looking rather disoriented after being healed.

Description: Susanoo is a technique that creates a spiritual being resembling a yamabushi. It wields the sacred Yata no Kagami (八咫鏡, Eight Span Mirror), a mirror that's considered one of the three sacred treasures capable of reflecting all attacks, as a shield in its left hand. In its right, the legendary Totsuka no Tsurugi (十拳剣, Ten Hands Long Sword), also known as the Sakenagi Longsword (酒刈太刀, Sakenagi no Tachi; Sake Cutter Longsword), is held. The Totsuka no Tsurugi, commonly sheathed in a sake jar held by a third hand growing from Susanoo's right forearm, is an ethereal weapon with an enchanted blade capable of sealing anything it pierces in an eternal dream-like illusion, and is described as the perfect counter to Orochimaru's Kusanagi Sword.[2] Like the Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi, Susanoo is an ability of the Mangekyo Sharingan. Zetsu said that Susanoo's Totsuka Sword combined with the Yata mirror essentially makes Itachi invincible. Susanoo has been labeled as the "Raging God of Battle".[1]
The Sword itself can be presumed as an extension added to the technique as Zetsu mentioned that no matter where Orochimaru searched for it, he could never find it. It is also possible the Mirror can be another extension, as Zetsu also mentioned that it is another legendary item, on par with the Sword.
Like the other Mangekyo Sharingan techniques, Susanoo comes with its own risks. To keep Susanoo sustained in the physical realm, the user must act as a medium for the deity, allowing it to consume their life force energy. This puts a severe strain on the user's body and prolonged use will lead to their death.
Sasuke has also been shown to use Susanoo's bones to protect himself from the Current Raikage's Lightning Self Bomb. Though Sasuke managed to survive the impact, one of Susanoo's rib bones snapped.[3] Sasuke has also combined Susanoo with Amaterasu for defensive maneuvers, wrapping himself with the black flames of Amaterasu as a shield while protecting himself from it with Susanoo.[4] Sasuke's version is slightly different in appearance, horns being the most noticeable difference as well as having a darker, evil looking aura surrounding it.
